Start a food enterprise with Our Bright Future

Express your interest today and you might be shaping one of over 60 new student-led sustainable food enterprises, supported by NUS.

We’re really pleased to announce that our food growing project Student Eats is one of 31 projects funded and supported by Our Bright Future.

Our Bright Future is a portfolio of projects funded by the Big Lottery Fund which empower young people to create a healthier planet and a vibrant economy.

They've chosen to support our work on sustainable food. Over the next five years, Student Eats will be developing over sixty new enterprises based on local and sustainable food.

We want to help students go from growing food at the heart of their campuses, to creating veg box schemes and farmers’ markets, right the way to fully fledged businesses and cafes based around local food.

To do this, we’re partnering with the Soil Association, Sustain and the Plunkett Foundation. Together, we’re going to get over £300,000 of local food traded through the student movement, and boost the employability of 3,000 students.

Director of Soil Association Food For Life James Cashmorewill said that this project will "allow us to adapt the format of our highly successful school farmers’ markets into a new environment which we hope will not only enable students to gain valuable career skills and environmental knowledge but  improve the overall quality of food available on campus"

You can apply for support very soon. If you’d be interested in finding out more about this opportunity, drop us your detail below s and we’ll get in touch.

Also, if you already have a growing site up and running on your campus, we’d love to know more about you and connect you with the Student Eats network – putting our student movement at the heart of the sustainable food revolution.
