5 reasons you don’t want to miss the NUS Student Sustainability Summit

Thursday 19-10-2017 - 15:45

Taking place at Coventry University, on 8th November 2017

Our 4th annual Student Sustainability Summit is our flagship event for students, officers, and SU staff with an interest in sustainability. Join us for a day of talks, workshops, and networking. Gain practical skills in sustainability campaigning and connect with other officers and activists to take action on issues like divestment, renewables, food waste, climate justice, and so much more!

1. Q&A with campaign champion Esha Marwaha!

Minions excited
Our keynote speaker is inspirational University of Cambridge student, Esha Marwaha. Whilst still in secondary school, Esha ran a successful campaign against The Department of Education, who were threatening to remove climate change from the curriculum for under 14s. Through gathering support from over 31,000 people, victory was won and the government dropped their plans!

2. Take part in your choice of inspiring, practical workshops!

Whether you want to ‘green’ your curriculum, tackle food waste on campus, or campaign for fossil fuel divestment, we’ve got you covered. You can learn about community organising from Friends of the Earth, or hear from people who created impactful change in just one year! Ever wondered what Black Lives Matter has to do with sustainable transport? You’ll have the opportunity to explore loads of interesting and important questions in your choice of workshop sessions!

3. Discounted entry to Student Eats Conference!

This year we are holding our Student Eats Conference the day before the Student Sustainability Summit, and we’re offering a discounted rate for those attending both! Covering all things sustainable food, there’ll be fascinating talks (including Toast Ale who produce beer from waste bread), plus hands-on opportunities for growing, making, and eating!

4. Great networking opportunities!

Stepbrothers best friends
The Student Sustainability Summit is the perfect opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded people from all across the UK (and beyond!) who are working on similar campaigns. Swap stories, ideas, or advice over tea and coffee, or lunch. Speaking of lunch...

5. Yummy food!
