Carbon Literacy

OVERVIEW

Carbon Literacy is defined as: “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

This training will provide attendees with some introductory science on climate change to understand the social and environmental impacts of carbon dioxide emissions. During the training attendees will begin to develop their own toolkit and strategies for acting on and communicating action on climate change. 

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

As a result of attending this training, delegates will:

  • Understand the basic science behind climate change
  • Realise the interconnectivity between social equity & climate change
  • Develop a toolkit to act on climate change, including strategies and skills for communicating action on climate change

This training is appropriate for staff, students and officers from all disciplines and remits.

WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR DELIVERY?

This training course can be delivered through two options:
- a mix of in-person, online and individual work
- a mix of online and individual work only

Total commitment, including individual, online work and in-person where relevant is 14 hours.

 

DATES

This training can be commissioned at any point during the academic year, and is delivered according to the requirements of the institution. Please get in touch to confirm arrangements.

SOS-UK has also partnered with Speak Carbon to offer a national Carbon Literacy course, open to all HE, FE and SU staff members and officers. The course will run on 22nd April, 29th April and 6th May 2021 (2-4pm each day). Find out more and register here
