Student project implementation training & support

OVERVIEW

A bespoke training opportunity for students on project design, planning and implementation. Students go on to implement their project on campus, or in the community. As well as the initial training, this package involves supporting students to conduct an on-site activity and follow-up, either as a volunteering project, part of an academic course, or as a paid role.

The types of activity delivered by students could support information gathering for the university’s Environmental Management System (EMS), or to help inform or take action on the organisation's sustainability strategy.  Examples could include, but are not limited to:

  • Plastics audit
  • Waste and recycling audit
  • Water fountain mapping
  • High/low carbon food offering mapping
  • Coffee cup use analysis
  • Energy audit
  • Transport audit
  • Community energy advice
  • ESD within course analysis

Whereas some of our programmes, for example Student Swtitch Off, aim at mass engagement across the student population, this training aims to engage a smaller, committed number of students and allow them to build meaningful skills, as well as capturing data and/or generate positive sustainability outcomes.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After completing the training, student attendees will:

  • Develop and design a sustainability project to tackle a sustainability issue on your campus
  • Understand the basics of sustainability, and the role educational institutions play in tackling the climate crisis
  • Implement the project, alongside other students, and report back findings which can be used by staff to improve the sustainability of the campus
