2021 was the most successful Global Goals Teach In to date

The fourth annual Global Goals Teach In took place 22nd February – 5th March 2021 and was the most successful campaign since the first Teach In in 2018!

The annual campaign calls on educators from all disciplines and stages of education to pledge to include the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development, otherwise known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their teaching and learning throughout the two-week campaign period.

The 2021 campaign saw a total of 496 educators pledging to incorporate the Global Goals into their teaching, learning and assessment. The lessons, workshops and tutorials in the Teach In reached 47,292 students from 48 educational institutions in 10 countries. Last year’s campaign reached 25,026 students at 24 institutions, so the campaign has nearly doubled its reach this year! Congratulations to our winning institutions and students’ unions, who really embraced the campaign and generated some excellent sustainability-focused learning outcomes (you can see how your institution did this year on our full leaderboard here):

  • Overall winner: University of Exeter
  • Overall runners-up (student reach): Glasgow Caledonian University and Oxford Brookes
  • Overall runners-up (number of educators pledged): Ulster University and Glasgow Caledonian University
  • Further Education winner: Exeter College
  • Students’ Union winner: KeeleSU

The Teach In is part of SOS-UK’s wider work to get more students leading on and learning for sustainability. Through the Teach In and our suite of education programmes and campaigns like Responsible Futures and Teach the Future, we hope to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of sustainable development.
  • Catalyse curriculum reform and test new ideas.
  • Embed sustainability and social responsibility across all learning.
  • Link teaching, learning, and assessment to local and global concerns.
  • Prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to tackle the world's greatest challenges.
