Work with SOS-UK to engage staff and students in leading on, and learning for, sustainability.

SOS-UK works to get more students leading on and learning for sustainability, embed sustainability in the curriculum, and make sustainability more inclusive, for everyone.

In 2019-20 we worked with:

  • 71 universities on behaviour change, engagement, and educational reform programmes;
  • 10 healthcare organisations including hospitals and research centres, over 30 dental practices as well as 450 GP surgeries;
  • A range of other organisations including students’ unions, museums, local authorities, and small and medium sized enterprises.

Our work has developed over the last decade and our experienced team continue to innovate and develop our programmes, projects, campaigns, and consultancy in partnership with a range of sector organisations.

Some of the benefits resulting from our programmes include bringing students and staff together to improve the environmental and social impact of their institution, achieving measurable reductions in carbon emissions and financial savings, and developing students’ knowledge, skills, and attributes which they will carry with them into their future personal and professional lives. We engage everyday students in sustainability, not just established campaigners, supporting students wherever they are on their sustainability journey and creating a pathway for young people to go on and engage with other organisations.

We look forward to working with you, your staff, and your students to continue to transform education to be a force for good.

BESPOKE SUPPORT

In addition to our ready-made programmes, we regularly work with universities, colleges, students’ unions, and sector organisations to design bespoke support for their specific needs. Recent examples of this include:

  • designing and delivering a custom survey on the circular economy;
  • working with Oxford University to review their university-wide sustainability engagement strategy and provide recommendations;
  • delivering an MSc lecture on education for sustainability development at the University of Surrey;
  • facilitating student-led curriculum mapping using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at De Montfort University, the University of Winchester, and Liverpool University;
  • developing bespoke versions of our existing programmes for Unite Students;
  • providing additional staffing capacity with our partners at Change Agents UK for Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals, the University of Sheffield, and the University of Worcester.
  • delivering full-day training for staff and elected officers at the SU at UWE and City University SU.

This year, in response to demand from students and staff, we are excited to launch our SOS-UK Learning Academy which houses all of our training, workshops, and support packages. These workshops can be delivered stand-alone or as a bolt-on for our programmes.
